Chutney is a wonderful addition to a meal of cold meats, cheese or a curry or barbecue. Homemade chutney can be made to your taste – add extra spice or more/less sugar and experiment with ingredients, especially if you grow your own fruit and vegetables and have a glut.

This summer has been really good for berries such as strawberries, raspberries, redcurrants, blueberries and the more unusual tayberries, loganberries and boysenberries.

A special highlight of the event was a performance by students from Tollesbury School, who shared poems inspired by the orchard.
