Variety of apples for juicing at Tollesbury Apple Day

Apple Day – 19th October 2024

Unlike our Apple Days in 2022 and 2023 which were held in mellow autumn sunshine, our 2024 morning started in heavy rain. Tarpaulins and matting were spread over the worst of the muddy patches and we feared for the turnout. But, as 10 o’clock arrived, so did the ticket-holders, in record numbers, and seemingly undaunted by the weather.

The damp apples and pears made an even more sparkling show than usual alongside the cutting and pressing queue and the whole site was soon full of happy folk, young and less so, enjoying the processing, the puzzles, crafts, games, refreshments and the wonderful Wildest Rumpus site, or just toasting by the campfire enjoying their popcorn.

Those on the afternoon visitors slot, and all the helpers with their capes and brollies, were rewarded by a much improved afternoon and the mellow evening made the clear-up a pleasure.

Thanks as always to Anna and Alex, Sylvia and Mike for allowing TCP to use the Wildest Rumpus site for this seemingly annual event.

We may tweak the format for 2025 to promote the “waste not” ethos which we have not quite nailed so far. Keep an eye on developments and let us have your thoughts.
